When designing the Summer Theater, our inspiration was drawn from the aesthetics of mid-20th-century cabaret theaters. The hinged roof, constructed from red textile “ribs”, became an interior feature within the open courtyard, creating a more intimate atmosphere within the theater space. The layering and structural elements of the hinged “ribs” resemble parts of a theatrical curtain, reinforcing the chosen style.
The circular stage within the courtyard had already been actively utilized by guests of the venue prior to the establishment of the theater. Within the context of the newly created space, it was envisioned as a performance venue for concerts by both academic and experimental musicians, as well as tours by independent theater companies, and jazz events.
Today, the summer theater has transformed into a space reminiscent of an open city square, or the steps of a cathedral, available throughout the day for visitors to meet, unwind, socialize, or engage in children's play.
